Bruins AGM Recap
The Estevan Bruins held their Annual General Meeting last night at Taylorton Room of the Days Inn. The first order of business was the the review of the financial report. In the 2009-2010 season the Bruins had a profit of about $12,000 while in the 2010-2011 season the Bruins had a loss of nearly $60,000.
Bruins President Jeff Pierson explains there were a few reasons for the club suffering a loss last season. One was the change of Head Coach during the season, also declining attendance which lead to lower 50-50 sales among other things.
The club also said with last season inside of the Civic Auditorium, the financial report will have a different look next season with this season taking place in Spectra Place.
Bruins Head Coach and GM Keith Cassidy gave a report of the on ice product. He noted the team has gotten off to a great start with a 14-8 record, but the thing Cassidy was happiest about the club was the team's character. He feels along with the rest of the coaching and support staff they have assembled a team full of great personalities that the city can be proud of.
Operations and Marketing Manager Becky Tait followed and gave her report. She noted the club will be losing some revenue this season as the City of Estevan has taken over the Concession sales, but in turn the Bruins have exclusive advertising rights for the rink boards in the LMC, along with Spectra Place and the Civic Auditorium. The Bruins also have the advertising rights for the Ice logos, the stairwells, and the ice level enterances.
Tait also said for this season they sold nearly 700 season tickets which surpassed their goal of 600, the club says the goal for next season will likely be 900.
Tait then said the goal of the Bruins when they moved to Spectra Place was to turn every Bruins game into a big event. The club did this by adding the Stream-Flo Ice Team, the Jumbo Tron, and also making a bigger deal out of the game day sponsors by having contests going on during the game.
Both Tait and Pierson noted the volunteers for the team this season has been unbelievable. The club had more than enough volunteers when they hosted SJHL Showcase, the Hard Knocks Fighting Championship and the recent Doc Walker concert. The Bruins had 400 different volunteers throughout the season helping out at Bruins games and Bruins fundraisers.
The club then held the election for the Board Executive, both Jeff Pierson and Chad Saxon were re-elected, while Kim Anderson stepped down. The club thanked Anderson for all of the work he has done with the club over the years. The club opened the floor for elections and Cory Prokop and Randy Bye were elected as new members of the board.
The meeting concluded with the club saying they are expecting many more events to be held in Spectra Place and they are hoping a successful season from the Bruins on the ice.
