The Bruins went 2-1 last week, picking up a 8-3 win over Notre Dame in Carlyle, a 6-5 win against Melfort before falling to defeat to Melville on Sunday.
Player of the Week
Dylan Smith
The SJHL Player of the Week continues to enjoy a strong start to the season. Smith is already at 40 points this season, and at his current pace would hit 105 on the season. This past week Smith picked up 5 goals and 4 assists.
Rookie of the Week
Ben Johnstone
It was quite the homecoming for Johnstone last Wednesday in Carlyle, Johnstone scored a hat trick in the Bruins 8-3 win over the Hounds. Johnstone had to take a bigger role on the weekend with the absence of Josh Jelinski. Johnstone centred the Bruins energy line on the weekend and didn't look out of place.
Defenceman of the Week
Dominic Perrault
It was a big week for Perrault at both ends of the ice. Perrault had a pair of goals and a pair of assists. But defensively I think Perrault stepped up big time especially against Melville when his defensive partner Connor Milligan went down with an injury on the first shift of the game, the Bruins went down to 5 d-man and I thought Perrault had a big game in the loss to Melville.
Unsung Hero of the Week
Cole Olson
Olson has enjoyed a strong start in his second campaign with the Bruins. Early on the season he was the playmaker one the line with Smith and Calder Neufeld. I thought Olson had a big game against Melfort and his perfect pass to Taylor Reich on his shorthanded goal was the turning point in the win for the Bruins. It doesn't matter if Olson is playing with Neufeld and Smith or youngsters like Reich and Tanner Froese, he'll always make his linemates that much better.
The Bruins have a pretty quiet week ahead. The face La Ronge on Saturday night at home ice with a 7:30 faceoff and that's it. The Bruins will also hold their Annual General Meeting tomorrow night at 7:00 at the Days Inn, I'm hoping to go, but I'm battling a nasty cold/flu right now.
