Back To Work

After a wonderful 10 day holiday it's been back to the grind for yours truly, I enjoyed a week in Waskiseu full of sunshine, golfing, fishing, enjoying time with family and friends, and sleeping in. The picture above is from the tee shot of the #6 hole at Waskiseu, with 22 elk occupying the fairway. Somehow my tee shot hit the fairway and managed not to nail one of those elk.

--While I was gone on holidays, the Bruins did make one move as they shipped off defenceman Brett Rock to Sherwood Park of the AJHL for future considerations. There's plenty of potential in Rock's game, and if he uses all of his tools that he possesses, Rock should have a strong season next year.

-- I'm happy to see Joel Kot heading to the U of Regina next season. Kot battled injuries all of last season with the Bruins, but whenever the Moose Jaw native was in the lineup, he had both an offensive and defensive presence. Kot had one of the best hip checks in the SJHL and was a great Quarterback on the powerplay. Kot had quite the junior career winning an Anavet Cup with Dauphin in 2010 and spent time with the Red Deer Rebels in the WHL. Kot will be joining Troy Hunter, the two have played together in Dauphin and in Estevan.

--I'm a little surprised to see the other category is the leader on the poll on who will be the Bruins Captain this season. Are people voting for Dylan Smith, Michael Hengen, Ryan Ostertag or Matt Dochylo? All four of those players, I think will end up being in the running for A's on their sweaters, but I'll be shocked at the end of the day if the captain isn't Dominic Perrault, Josh Jelinski or Eric Baldwin.

-- The Riders didn't win a game on my holidays, and really there wasn't much to get excited about. The offence is in a funk right now, and to simply blame it on one person is foolish. Hard to believe that if the Riders lose on Friday, they will be looking for their first win at home against the Blue Bombers on Labour Day, who would've thought of that.

-- Apparently I wasn't the only one who took holidays, as the Pittsburgh Pirates didn't win a game while I was away from work. A shame too, they were becoming one of the best stories in baseball.

-- Brett Lawrie, has become a Blue Jays superstar in less than a week. After years, the Blue Jays may have found their Canadian Superstar they've been lacking.

-- Things will pick over the coming weeks, with ECS football beginning next Friday, Minor Football next Saturday, Kraft Celebration Tour on August 25, and Bruins training camp on Sept. 2.
