One More Play by Play

I'm going to be doing play by play for  the Bienfait Coalers vs Shellbrook Elks provincial final game for Access on Saturday night at Spectra Place. The series is tied 1-1 with the road team each game in the series.

To help preview Saturday's game, Lucas and Chris Stubel are my guests this week on Locker Talk. We recapped the Big 6 Final which included Lucas scoring a hat trick in the clinching game of the finals and we take a closer look at the final.

Locker Talk can be seen at 6:30 on Access 7 tonight, and then Saturday 12:00 noon, as well it's on Sunday night.

Danyluk Wins University Championship

Former Estevan Bruins Goalie Joel Danyluk claimed a championship in junior hockey with the La Ronge Ice Wolves and he followed that up with a University championship as the Augustana Vikings claimed the ACAC Men's Hockey championship on Friday with a 3-2 overtime win over NAIT.

Danyluk made 34 saves in the Vikings net for the championship victory.

Through the posteseason Danyluk went 6-2 with a 2.20 GAA and a 930 SV%.

Locker Talk Turns into Cage Talk with Derek Daku

This week on Locker Talk, I'm joined by Hard Knock Fighting's Derek Daku and Phil Zajac.

It was been quite the ride for Daku after picking up victories in his two fights with Hard Knock Fighting Championship in Estevan including his last victory on Mar.3 knocking out Dusty Shingoose in 12 seconds. We discuss why Hard Knocks has been so successful in Estevan.

We preview the upcoming card on June 1 in Estevan and which opponent who he would like to face on the card. We also talk about the news UFC is coming to Calgary and some other MMA talk. We even discuss the enforcer role in hockey.

Locker Talk is tonight at 6:30 Saturday at 12:00 noon and Sunday nights on Access 7 in Estevan.

Stubel leads Coalers to Championship

I have to admit, I thought I was dreaming last night when I woke up and saw that Lucas Stubel (my color guy for the Bruins whenever he's around) scored a hat trick in leading the Bienfait Coalers to the Big 6 title with a 5-2 win in Midale.

Stubel played with the Bruins from 2008-2011 before moving on to Senior Hockey and playing with the Coalers with his brother Chris, another ex-Bruin. The team features plenty of ex Bruins, the only other one who played during my time with the Bruins is former Captain Kyle Garagan.

The Coalers won the league title and will now look to turn the tide in their provincial final against Shellbrooke. The Coalers are down 1-0 in the series but if the Coalers win on Saturday then Game 3 will be next Saturday at Spectra Place.

So congrats to the Stubels and the rest of the Coalers on capturing the team's second straight Big 6 title.
