Johnstone The Hometown Hero in Bruins 8-3 Win

Ben Johnstone said he wanted to give his friends and family in Carlyle something to remember, and boy did  he ever delivered on his promise with a hat trick in the Bruins 8-3 win.

The Bruins got off to a slow start early as the Hounds scored 50 seconds into the game to grab a 1-0 lead. The Bruins would take little time to rebound, as Josh Jelinski had a great shift delivering a pair of punishing hits before scoring his 5th of the season to even up the score.

Ryan Ostertag would score to give the Bruins the lead. After Notre Dame scored, Johnstone scored his first of the evening to give the Bruins the edge 3-2 after one period.

Notre Dame tied it in the second, but once the third period came arrived it seemed like the Bruins took control and never let go. Dominic Perrault, Johnstone and Tyler Kauk all scored in the opening 1:07 in the third. The Bruins were in cruise control following that, Johnstone put the icing on the cake with the hat trick and Ostertag scored his second of the evening to finish the scoring.

Johnstone has really been hitting his stride these past few weeks, along with providing a high tempo physical play he's making a difference on the scoresheet. I did have the chance to speak with him after the game, my recorder cut out the first question. The interview starts off with Johnstone explaining why the Carlyle Sports Arena is great rink for players like him and Josh Jelinski to thrive in.

Another player who has been playing some good hockey over the last couple of weeks has been Ryan Ostertag. Ostertag has scored four goals in his last 5 games, and I had a chance to speak with him after the game.

The Bruins will head back to Spectra Place Friday night with a date against the Melfort Mustangs which will be followed by a road game in Melville on Saturday. Just a reminder the game in Melville will be broadcasted on CJ1280 and discoverestevan.com beginning at 7:20.
