Bruins Fall Short in Melville

The Estevan Bruins had a solid effort in Meville but walked away empty handed as they were defeated by the Melville Millionaires 3-2.

The Millionaires opened up the scoring as Kyle Scaber’s pass in front took an unfortunate deflection and snuck past Bruins Goalie Travis Pelletier to give the Millionaires an early lead. The Millionaires extended their lead to 2-0 as Russell Trudeau's shot from the point found the back of the net.

The Bruins were in similar situation on opening night in Melville trailing by a couple of goals after the first period, but instead of collapsing the Bruins fought back and took control in the second period. The Bruins were able to control the play in the Millionaires zone for the most part in the period, but were unable to get a goal past the Mils Alex Wakaluk.

The Bruins went to work early in the period. 34 seconds into the final period Tyler Paslawski pass along the goal line was deflected by Darcy DeRoose to cut the deficit to 2-1. With the goal DeRoose extended his point streak to 8 games.

Melville responded less than a minute later when Christian Magnus completed a wrap around and scored for Melville to give the Millionaires a 3-1 lead.

The Bruins wouldn't go down without a fight as the power play was able to connect for the Bruins. Newcomer Dustin Jesseau’s shot from the point was deflected by Tanner Froese for his 7th of the season to make it a one goal game.

The Bruins had a few opportunities to tie the game in the final ten minutes by Wakaluk was able to keep the puck of net as Melville won 3-2.

For Jesseau it was an impressive debut as he picked an assist and looked right at home on a line with Roger Tagoona and Nick Weiss. The trio created havoc inside of Melville’s zone which lead to several scoring opportunities.

The Bruins were unable to move past Kindersley and remains one point behind the Klippers for 4th spot in the Sherwood Conference.

The Bruins will now begin their biggest break of the season besides the Christmas holiday. The Bruins are off until Friday, November  23 when they host the La Ronge Ice Wolves. The next Bruins broadcast on CJ1280 and discoverestevan.com is set for Tuesday, November 27 when the Bruins meet Yorkton, coverage begins at 7:20.
