Bruins Lose Thriller to Broncos 2-1

The Estevan Bruins pushed the Humboldt Broncos to the limit, but in the end the Broncos hung on for their 14th straight win after a 2-1 win over the Bruins.

Andrew Herle opened the scoring in the first period for the Broncos to grab a 1-0 lead in what proved to be the only goal of the period.

In the second, the Bruins went to work quickly as Josh Jelinski scored for the Bruins 11 seconds into the period to tie the game.  Halfway through the period, one of the Bruin players accidently crashed into Bruins goalie Steven Glass, Glass tried to play through the injury, but left after one shift, Glass had made 22 saves before he left with the injury. Tyler Ross came on in relief for the Bruins.

In the third period, both teams exchanged chances to get the go ahead goal, but it would be Andrew Johnston scoring on a 3 on 2 rush for the Broncos to give Humboldt the win. Ross ended up with 17 saves and took the loss.

After the game, Bruins Head Coach Keith Cassidy thought Glass’s injury wasn’t serious, but couldn’t offer an official diagnosis.

The Bruins will be off until Friday when they kick off a six game home stand against the La Ronge Ice Wolves.

After the game I had the chance to talk to Cassidy about tonight’s game, the road trip and the upcoming Jan.10 deadline.

I'll have more thoughts about the road trip and the Jan.10 deadline later today, after a sleep.
