Bruins Open Road Trip With Loss in Melfort

The CanElson Drilling Estevan Bruins didn’t get the start they wanted on their three game road trip as they were defeated by the Melfort Mustangs 5-2.

Special teams played a huge factor in the final outcome, the Bruins only had one power play, they went 1 for 1, while Melfort was 3 for 7 on the power play which included two 5 on 3 power plays that were the full two minutes.

Melfort opened the scoring in the first period, but the Bruins would respond with a pair as Dylan Smith scored which was followed by Tyler Paslawski scoring for the Bruins to give them a 2-1 lead. The Mustangs would tie the game at 2-2 before the end of the first.

The Mustangs would score the only goal in the second to lead 3-2 after 40 minutes. The Mustangs scored 17 seconds in to the third period to grab a 2 goal lead and they scored with 5 minutes left to end the game with a 5-2 win.

Tyler Ross played in net for the first time for the Bruins, he made 34 saves in the loss.  The Bruins will be back in action against Nipawin for the second game of their road trip beginning with the pre game show at 7:20 on CJ1280 and discoverestevan.com.
