Gearing Up for the Deadline

Junior hockey teams all across the country will be working the phones throughout the day as today is the trading deadline, the deadline closes tonight at 12:00 midnight.

The Estevan Bruins will be one of many teams who will be looking to add another piece to their roster as they begin a playoff push. Bruins Head Coach and GM Keith Cassidy has said the team will be looking to add another piece to the team as long as it's the right fit. Cassidy noted the core of the team is in place and he doesn't want to disrupt that.

The blue line will likely be the area the Bruins will be addressing today, currently the Bruins have six regular defenceman on their roster including four rookie defenceman. Cassidy has been impressed with his rookie defencemen throughout the season and wouldn't mind adding a veteran to help out with the defence. The Bruins also have some roster defence depth on forward as Eric Baldwin and Matt Brykaliuk have spent some time on the blue line for the Bruins this season.

The Bruins have been active throughout the season adding players like Connor Milligan, Tyler Poskus and Tyler Paslawski to their roster in trades from earlier this season. The Bruins only have three 20 year old players, Matthew Dochylo, Derek Whitehill and Dominic Perrault.

I'm predicting the Bruins will acquire a defenceman, and possibly a veteran forward, and I think it will be a quieter deadline in the SJHL but we will have to wait and see.
