Heartbreaker for the Bruins in Nipawin

The Estevan Bruins had two crucial points slip away from their hands as the Nipawin Hawks defeated the Bruins 4-3 in Nipawin on Saturday.

The Bruins opened the game strong with a solid first period that was capped off by Austin Yano scoring his 8th goal of the season to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Nipawin responded in the second period  27 seconds in Mitch Doell scored on a shorthanded breakaway to tie the game at 1-1. The Bruins regained the lead as Cole Olson scored on a pretty pass from Dylan Smith as the Bruins lead 2-1. Nipawin scored shortly afterwards as Jeff Datoff’s point shot went past a screened Steven Glass to tie the game at 2-2. But before the end of the period, the Bruins got the lead back as Yano made a rush from his own zone that ended off with the puck going past Hawk’s goalie Taran Kozun with the Bruins leading 3-2 after 40 minutes.

In the third the Bruins and Hawks were both scoreless until Grant Jensen scored to tie the game with about 4 minutes left, and then with 24 seconds, former Bruin Jesse Bernard scored to give the Hawks the win 4-3.

Steven Glass made 22 saves in the loss, while the Bruins went 0-1 on the power play. The Bruins will end their road trip in Humboldt as they meet the Broncos. You can catch the game on CJ1280 and discoverestevan.com beginning at 7:20.
