Bruins Fast Start Not Enough in 4-3 Loss

The return of Dylan Smith to the Estevan Bruins lineup provided a spark but in the end it was enough as they lost to the Kindersley Klippers 4-3.

The Bruins got off to a fast start with Hudson Morrison scoring 1:41 into the first period to make it a 1-0 Bruins lead. The Bruins extended their lead to 2-0 when Dylan Smith scored in his first game back with the Bruins on a loose rebound. After the Smith goal, the Klippers pulled Goalie Warren Shymko and replaced him with Tyrell King.

The move seemed to spark the Klippers as they settled down and managed to sneak one past the Bruins Curtis Martinu. The Bruins lead 2-1 after one period.

In the second period the Klippers tied the game after Kindersley's Giovani Bombini with a highlight reel goal tied the game at 2-2. But halfway thru the period the Bruins regained the lead as Cole Olson deflected Zach Douglas shot on the powerplay to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes.

The Klippers tied the game in the third as Colby Daniels shot from the point got past Martinu to tie the game. With just over six minutes Troy Gedney's shot from the point trickled past Martinu and the Bruins fell behind for the first time of rhe game.

With about a minute remaining the Bruins pulled Martinu for an extra attacker. The Bruins weren't able to capitalize as Tyler Paslawski was called for an interference penalty. The Klippers hung on for a 4-3 win.

Despite the disappointment of losing a game against the Klippers the team they're chasing there were some positives. With the return of Smith and Darcy DeRoose, the forward lines for the Bruins looked much better than their loss last Saturday. All three lines were generating opportunities and all three lines showed chemistry. Smith didn't look out of place in first game back. He was working hard going into the corners and could've scored a few more goals. Hudson Morrison extended his scoring streak to four games with the opening goal of the game.

Tonight was another example of the Bruins showing signs that they're ready to break through, they just need something to bring it all together.

The Bruins are back in action tomorrow night in Battlefords and you can catch the game on CJ1280 and discoverestevan.com beginning at 4:50.
