Bruins Lose to Hawks 3-1





The CanElson Drilling Estevan Bruins opened up their road trip in northeastern Saskatchewan with a 3-1 loss to the Nipawin Hawks.

Former Bruin and Carlyle product Ben Johnstone opened up the scoring 38 seconds as he took the puck from the corner and walked in front of the net and buried a shot past the Bruins Curtis Martinu to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Nipawin would extend their lead to 2-0 as Brady Zerr capitalized on a Bruins turnover and scored for Nipawin.

The Hawks extended their lead to 3-0 when Eli Litchenwald found Tad Kozun in front. The Bruins battled through the first two periods but weren't able to solve Jordan Liem.

In the third period the Bruins Dylan Smith finished off a give and go with Alex Cote and the Bruins were back in business as they were down 3-1 early in the period. But the Bruins weren't able to convert on any other chances and ended up losing to the Hawks 3-1.

Martinu made 32 saves for the Bruins while the Bruins powerplay went 0 for 3.
